FORWARD -> Full Monty

Smallphoto_4

Proud and excited to show you the the full-on version of the FORWARD -> portrait. This 4' x 6' print is silk screened on outdoor vinyl and will be on display Friday, April 20th - Gallery Night - at the Too Much Metal Showroom. Plus limited edition screen prints, natch.

Obviously, politics is in the air. So it's hard not notice. This dialogue has captured my imagination for the last year. It got annoying - I had to spit it up. I wanted to express something without the usual trappings of partisan paralysis and pedantic imagery. Problem, right ?

Yes.

So my challenge was to integrate a 21st Century graphic vocabulary into the world of propaganda art. The FORWARD print represents what I think progress looks like: It's fast. It's restless. It's elegant and messy yet rooted in a dynamic and rich cultural history.

Notice: there are no fists. There are no clever slogans. There are no high-contrast images of worker silhouettes.

What you do have is: a state moto as a punk rock parody and not an ideology. What you do have are: digital bits of communication forming patterns and connections - think non-subscription media. What you do have are: long and sharp pen strokes.

There are broken mirrors reflecting movement. And then: there's your image. This big print only becomes exciting when you put yourself in front of it. Why do you care? What do you advocate? Who do you fight for? And like a Bo Diddley song, "Who do you love?" All heavy things, right?

Yes.

And all these things are questions only you can answer going FORWARD.

And now for the DIRTY: Limited edition 18" x 24" smaller screen prints will be available for purchase. And come with a FREE t-shirt.
