FORWARD -> Full Monty

Smallphoto_4

Proud and excited to show you the the full-on version of the FORWARD -> portrait. This 4' x 6' print is silk screened on outdoor vinyl and will be on display Friday, April 20th - Gallery Night - at the Too Much Metal Showroom. Plus limited edition screen prints, natch.

Obviously, politics is in the air. So it's hard not notice. This dialogue has captured my imagination for the last year. It got annoying - I had to spit it up. I wanted to express something without the usual trappings of partisan paralysis and pedantic imagery. Problem, right ?

Yes.

So my challenge was to integrate a 21st Century graphic vocabulary into the world of propaganda art. The FORWARD print represents what I think progress looks like: It's fast. It's restless. It's elegant and messy yet rooted in a dynamic and rich cultural history.

Notice: there are no fists. There are no clever slogans. There are no high-contrast images of worker silhouettes.

What you do have is: a state moto as a punk rock parody and not an ideology. What you do have are: digital bits of communication forming patterns and connections - think non-subscription media. What you do have are: long and sharp pen strokes.

There are broken mirrors reflecting movement. And then: there's your image. This big print only becomes exciting when you put yourself in front of it. Why do you care? What do you advocate? Who do you fight for? And like a Bo Diddley song, "Who do you love?" All heavy things, right?

Yes.

And all these things are questions only you can answer going FORWARD.

And now for the DIRTY: Limited edition 18" x 24" smaller screen prints will be available for purchase. And come with a FREE t-shirt.

Merry Milverine X-Mas

Hanging out with my buddies John and Tim talking boxing and cage fighting. You know...that's what dudes talk about on a street corner. BTW John says buy a t-shirt so he can get a winter coat - it's cold out there.

John "Milverine" Hamann Gallery Night recap

Truly honored by everyone who came out and met John " Milverine " Hamann at the Meet the Milverine on Gallery Night. Filling the showroom with sounds of lyrical and dramatic opera, John gave us a proper lesson in Rosinni covering the greats from Mario Lanza to Vivica Genaux. Like a Jedi Knight, John is a disclipned and veracious opera lover with an extensive knowledge of the art form. The next time you see John walking the streets of Old Milwaukee be sure to greet him with a hello - he'd like that. The "Milverine" is more than a walking legend, a romance-novel fantasty or a myth. John is a man. John is the Man. So do yourself a favor (be a man or a woman) and make a new friend.

Meet the Milverine on Gallery Night

His name is John and here is your chance to meet and greet the walking legend. On Friday October 21st, 2011 from 6p to 10p, John will be available to sign your Milverine t-shirts and snap a photo at the Too Much Metal Showroom. This is a moment to capture your imangination and celebrate Milwaukee's epic perambulator.
